What the course includes

  • what a secure element is, and how it differs from an ordinary microcontroller
  • the principle of offline signing: why the private key never leaves the device
  • deterministic derivation from a seed (BIP32/BIP39), and what the twenty-four words actually represent
  • signed firmware: what the signature check at start-up is for
  • open hardware versus proprietary hardware — what that debate is really about
  • how the devices differ from one another in design, and why the comparison is a matter of engineering, not of brand preference
  • what such a device does NOT protect against: typing a recovery phrase into a website, physical coercion, plain carelessness
  • 🔴 why nobody legitimate will ever ask you for your recovery phrase — not a maker, not a help desk, not a teacher
  • an English–French–Polish glossary of the thirty terms of the field (hardware wallet, seed phrase, passphrase, firmware, air-gapped, secure element, cold storage)

How the session runs

The workshop is taught at the board, from diagrams, public screenshots and the makers' own public documentation. No device is sold, initialised, restored or handled — neither mine nor yours. No recovery phrase is ever asked for, shown or typed in at any point, and that is precisely one of the things being taught: nobody legitimate will ever ask you for it. The brands are named in the plural, as examples, and no brand or model is recommended over another — choosing a device is not part of what is taught here.
